The presentation below is my Initial Research Topic, or IRT. Each CAPS student was randomly assigned a topic to research and present to the rest of the cohort. The only instructions given were to make the presentation three slide and last three minutes. My topic was the late Buckminister Fuller and I focused my project on the impact of his arcitexture at Walt Disney's Epcot Report, asking the question: "How has Buckminister Fuller's geodesic dome, Spaceship Earth, inspired the large amount of people who visit it?" Here is a guide to understanding the 3 slides: 1. Background on Fuller's life 2. About Spaceship Earth at Epcot 3. How this geodesic dome and the ride within it are an example of Fuller's legacy and inspiration for the people who have and will visit.
The presentation below is my Pecha Kucha. This style of storytelling was developed in Tokyo, Japan in 2003 and has become an extremely popular way to tell good stories in a "less is more" format. The classic Pecha Kucha consists of 20 slides that each last 20 seconds, but we did ones with 10 slides that each lasted 15 seconds. My Pecha Kucha focuses why I chose to do an intership at the Life is Good Kid's Foundation, what I will be doing with them, and how I plan to make a positive impact through this process. Here is a guide to understanding the 10 slides:
The first Life is Good shirt my family ever purchased.
All the Life is Good shirts I have now.
When it came time to choose a foundation to support for my bat mitzvah project, I chose the Life is Good Kid's foundation.
My friends and family were able to donate online in the week prior to my bat mitzvah and we raised over $1,200.
The theme of my Bat Mitzvah was Life is Good and my guest and I created a communal tile mosaic of the Foundation's logo.
My donation and mosaic were noticed by the company and I was invited to the Life is Good Festival as a VGP, or Very Good Person. There, my mosaic was on display and I met Bert, John, and Steve for the first time.
I began getting invited to more of their events.
One of these events was the Life is Art event, a silent auction in which guest bid on the art of employees to raise money for the Foundation.
For my internship, I will be bring this event to Newton North High School. I will prompt teenage artist to create work that will be auctioned off at event planned by me this spring.
I will also be creating a mural at Newton North High School of this one of Life is Good's designs. I am excited to spread good vibes to as many people as I can throughout my internship.
