I learn best through experiences and believe doing CAPS will help me to grow as a person. Being apart of this experience would open up a world of possibilities in learning about how the world outside of school works, along with who I can become outside of a classroom.
For the past few months, I have been in contact with Steve Gross, the founder of the Life is Good Playmakers' Foundation. This foundation helps children who have been through traumatic experiences find joy once again in the world. As I have been supporting this foundation for years, along with the side of Life is Good that creates merchandise with a very optimistic message, I believe doing a CAPS internship in Boston at their headquarters would be life changing. If I end up splitting the hours, I would love to be an Intern for an Art Therapist and learn about how the job works and impacts patients. As this is my planned profession, I would love to have first hand experience.
I will efficiently use my time because I am extremely motivated to use this experience to grow and thrive. I promise to work hard every second I am working as an Intern, along with the time I am working to demonstrate what I have learned and how it has impacted myself and the greater community.
I am excited for each day and challenge the Internship process brings. I am excited to learn, grow, and thrive though this process in a way I can't always in a classroom setting.
I am concerned about fulfilling the hours. As the Playmaker's are short staffed, Steve Gross has expressed some concerns about fulfilling the weekly time requirement. I am happy to split my time with another Internship or project that would help me fulfill the hours, along with using this opportunity as a way to learn and grow.
Over the course of the last few years, I have participated in many leadership programs and volunteer opportunities. I have worked with many adults on projects where I had to be professional through communication and behavior. Since 13, I have been donating time and money to the Playmaker and have always strived to work there one day. I am also very interested in knowing more about Art Therapy and how the profession works.
